Orvetta Young Backus

Orvetta M. Backus, 94, of Rogers passed away Oct. 26, 2014, at Circle of Life Hospice following a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and a special friend. Orvetta was born to the late Jay and Reba Young on May 14, 1920, in Cane Hill, Ark. She attended Springdale High School where she was chosen as football queen in both 1936 and 1937. Later she graduated from the Springdale School of Business. She met the love of her life, Coy V. Backus, while he was home on leave during World War II. They were married in July 1946. Orvetta was the longtime bookkeeper at Rogers Pharmacy and a homemaker. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and was active in the W.S.C.S. for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Survivors include her son, Randall Backus of Rogers; her grandson, Coy T. Backus of Fayetteville; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday in the chapel of Rollins Funeral Home in Rogers.
