Clyde McPhee

Clyde McPhee, age 84, died at home with his family in Rogers, Ark., on Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, of complications arising from cancer. Born on Sept. 2, 1930, in Chicago, Ill., to Elliot Clyde and Louise Egloff McPhee, he lived in California, Colorado and Wichita Falls, and Houston, Texas, before retiring to Rogers, Ark. He earned a B.S. from Purdue, and served four years in the Navy, including 1.5 years as a submariner, qualifying on the USS Caiman in 1954. He worked as an engineer, plant manager, and financial officer for Gates Rubber Company and Longwood Industries. In retirement he was actively engaged in the Northwest Arkansas Jazz Society, Benton County Master Gardeners, Snook Base — U.S. Submarine Veterans, regional duplicate bridge and the D&T Fishing Club. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Meta McPhee; and his parents. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Vernele Freitag McPhee; his son, Nicholas Freitag McPhee and Nic's wife, Susan Gilbert, and son, Thomas S. McPhee; his daughter, Mary Elsbeth (Misty) McPhee and daughter, Linda Sanders Witte, and her husband, John Witte; and his sister, Mary McPhee Irvine.
