Patricia Ann (Hunter) Carney

Patricia Ann (Hunter) Carney passed away in Fayetteville, Ark., on Oct. 17, 2014. Patricia, who was born on July 24, 1931, in Vandervoort, Ark., was 83 years of age. A resident of Rudy, Ark., for the last 55 years, Patricia was preceded in death by her husband, Jack H. Carney, her parents, Holder Hunter and Elsie Hunter Jones, and her sister, Dorothy Hunter Bell. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Shelly Carney of Fayetteville; her grandchildren, Chase and Shelby Carney of Fayetteville, and her daughter Julia of Rudy, Ark. She is also survived by two nephews and one niece and their spouses: Greg and Diane Bell of Sheridan, Ark., Kirk and Lesa Bell of Mineral Springs, Ark., and Joy and Todd Norris of Dallas, Texas. She is also survived by a stepson, Jack Hicks and his family, of Oklahoma City, Okla. Patricia taught school at Judsonia and Wabbeska, Ark., and she was the Newton County Extension Agent in Jasper in the 1950s. She started teaching at Alma High School in 1959 and taught Home Economics there for 34 years. She had maintained her home in Rudy for the last 20 years since her retirement. One of her favorite things to do in her retirement years was to spend time with her grandchildren. She was a member of the Mount View Methodist Church in Alma, Ark. She was a graduate of Van Buren High School and a graduate of Arkansas State Teachers College, (now the University of Central Arkansas), in Conway. She later received her Master's Degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville during the 1970s. Family will visit with family and friends from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19 at Ocker Funeral Home. The funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Ocker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel in Van Buren, Ark., with burial to follow in Gracelawn Cemetery in Van Buren, Ark.
