Elizabeth 'Betty' Alene Clevenger Kennedy

Elizabeth "Betty" Alene Clevenger Kennedy, 86, a resident of Maryville, Tenn., went home to Jesus on Oct. 4, 2014, at Circle of Life in Bentonville, Ark. She was born Nov. 29, 1927, in Morganton, N.C., daughter of Floyd and Mary Clevenger, the fourth of eight children. Betty served her family well as a wife, mother and homemaker, and enjoyed time with her friends as an avid bridge player and PEO sister. Betty grew up in Cleveland, Tenn., and married the love of her life, Bill Kennedy, in Oak Ridge, Tenn., in 1946. Bill and Betty lived in Tennessee, Arizona, Pennsylvania, Colorado and returned to Tennessee in their retirement. Betty has been a faithful member of First United Methodist Church Maryville and a member of the Garst Sunday school class since 1990. Her beloved, Bill; her parents; and four brothers Floyd, Charles, Wallace "Wally" and Howard preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters, (Mary) Susan and her husband, Michael, of Rogers, Ark., and Sharon of Lansdale, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Elaine Junkins (and Larry), Joanne Taylor (and Metro), Carol Clevenger, Eunice Heath; and sisters-in-law, Ruby Clevenger and Pete Clevenger; and countless nieces and nephews, all whom adore Betty. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at First United Methodist Church Maryville, 804 Montvale Station Road, Maryville, Tenn. Graveside services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Food Connection of Blount County (Tennessee), Habitat for Humanity, PEO International Program for Continuing Education (Chapter T), or First United Methodist Church Maryville's Welcome Table or Family Promise ministries.
