"Grandma's Canary Yellow Corvette"
4 a.m. Saturday Morning
mid July, hot and humid
walking like a zombie
eyes full of sleep
2 little clumsy children
climb in the tiny back seat
of grandma's canary yellow corvette
Up before the sun
streets dark and deserted
searching for great bargains
hunting for garage sales
pockets full of cash to spend
looking for that one of a kind find
in grandma's canary yellow corvette
One day a week
all summer long
2 little girls
quality time with granny
biscuits and gravy at Hardees
and head home mid-afternoon
in grandma's canary yellow corvette
Treasures galore
nowhere to sit
squashed by the many things
we bought on our trip
go home and sort it
and show it all off
as we unload grandma's canary yellow corvette
2 grown women
still remember when
childhood treasures
and little such things
now grandma's in heaven
and only memories remain
She sold it, grandma's canary yellow corvette.
In loving memory of Grandma Martha McGarrah
