Annye "Irene" White-Johnston died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014, in Tahlequah, Okla. She was born in Tullahoma, Tenn., on Aug. 12, 1920, to Ernest Hanley and Georgia Florence (Roulette) White. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Louise White; her brother, Ernest Buford White; husband, James Clair Johnston; and step-son-in-law, Robert D. Carey. Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Sherry of Springdale, Ark., and Eva Jackson of Ozark, Mo.; one brother, David White of St. Peters, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Judy Johnston Carey; two step-grandsons, Michael and wife, Kelley Carey, and James Carey; and two step-great-grandchildren, Madison and Charles. Irene attended Joplin Business School and later received her real estate license. Her varied careers included working for Oklahoma State Highway Department, OETA and as a real estate broker. The job that Irene enjoyed the most was working in real estate. A Christian by faith, Irene was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tahlequah. She is remembered by her family and friends for her enjoyment of a good conversation and for her quick wit. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Tahlequah, 315 East Shawnee, Tahlequah, OK 74464; or Tahlequah Hospice; or the charity of your choice. Memorial services for Irene will be held at Go Ye Village Chapel in Tahlequah, Okla., on Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2014, at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at the Benton County Memorial Park in Rogers, Ark.
