With sadness and relief we announce the death of John W. Sallis III, 78 years of age of Springdale, Ark. Loving, and professional care from the Circle of Life hospice helped John find a new life on Nov. 26, 2014. He died in peace of natural causes from multiple health complications. Born on Oct. 1,1936, in Clarksville, Ark., John was the son of John W. Sallis II and Lucy Yearwood Sallis. He grew up with three loving sisters, Dawn, Betty and Joanne. Of his immediate family, he is survived only by his sister Betty Fiser in Memphis, Tenn. John attended the University of Arkansas School of Pharmacy in Little Rock, Ark., in 1961. John married his best friend and love of his life, Marilyn Sue Savage in Booneville, Ark., on July 29, 1962. His pharmaceutical career took him from retail pharmacy into a 18-year tenure at Springdale, Ark., Northwest Medical Center. At a young age, John built a passion for jazz and drums, playing throughout college and in various jazz performance groups. He was also a dedicated Boy Scout Leader to his son and friends on many adventures during their scouting years. His other passions include, model train and gun collecting. John is survived by his wife, Marilyn S. Sallis in Springdale, Ark.; his son, J. Scott Sallis, wife Janet in Pensacola, Fla.; and daughter, Dawn M. Schenkel, husband Doug in Nashville, Tenn. John has enjoyed four beautiful grandchildren, Grayson Lane and Greer Olivia Schenkel, John Oliver and James Walter Sallis. John is also survived by his sister, Betty Mae Fiser; husband James H. in Memphis, Tenn., and respective nieces and nephews. A Memorial service will be held at Springdale First United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014.
