Edna Mae Smith, 82, of Cave Springs, Ark., passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. Edna was born on May 18, 1932, in Swain, Ark., a daughter of Charlie E. Reed and Francis Hibbard Reed. She married the late Porter Smith on Dec. 23, 1956, in Kansas City, Mo., who preceded her in death in 2009. Edna was a homemaker who enjoyed gardening, cooking, music, painting and doing all sorts of crafts. She was a member of the Mason Valley Baptist Church where she played piano, taught the ladies Sunday school and enjoyed Bible study. She is survived by three daughters, Anita Watkins and husband, Ronnie, of Rogers, Ark., Darlene Bowen and husband, Mike, of Highfill, Ark., and Denise Birdsong and husband, Derry, of Springdale, Ark.; one sister, Imogene Huber; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Smith; her parents, Charlie and Francis Reed; and two sisters, Eva Lee Edgmon and Lorene Sisemore. Visitation was held on Monday, Nov. 24, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at the Mason Valley Baptist Church, 13998 West Highway 12, Bentonville, Ark., on Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2014, at 2 p.m. Her son-in-law, Derry Birdsong, will officiate the service, with burial being held at the Elm Springs Cemetery, under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
