Patsy Ann Mayer

Patsy Ann Smith "Pat" Mayer, 84, of Bella Vista, Ark., passed away Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at Isle at Watercrest in Mansfield, Texas. Pat was born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Sept. 19, 1930, to George and Aveline Smith. She grew up in Lafayette, Ind., and graduated from Purdue University. She married Jim Mayer on Sept. 27, 1953. Besides being a devoted wife and mother, Pat loved substitute teaching at the junior high level and is still remembered as "the best sub ever" by many of her former students. Pat and Jim moved to Bella Vista in 1991 after Jim retired. In retirement, Pat enjoyed playing tennis, and participating in golf and bowling leagues and bridge clubs. As a member of First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista, Pat was a member of Circle and Shepherd groups and was a Stephen minister. She also loved playing dominoes and sharing a glass of wine with her many close friends. Pat was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Jim. She is survived by her brother, William B. Smith of Hilton Head, S.C., and his wife, Barbara; children, Linda Howard of DeSoto, Texas, and her husband, Sonny Howard, Tom Mayer of Midlothian Texas, and his wife, Robin Mayer, and Dan Mayer of Granby, Colo.; grandchildren, Tiffany Abruzzese Leighton Howard, Dustin and Lauren Mayer; and great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Grayson Abruzzese. Memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Bella Vista Saturday, Nov. 15 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, FUMC Bella Vista or to the charity of the donor's choice.
