Doris Edith Shannon, age 84, of Dallas, Texas, passed away March 21, 2014. Doris was born Nov. 19, 1929, to Edith Lower Brundidge and Jay Claude Seamans. She was employed as an office assistant at the Highlander Newspaper Company in California and later worked as a nurse while living in Houston, Texas. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served as primary teacher and secretary, Relief Society president and visiting teacher, and displayed loving attention to the youth and full-time missionaries serving in her ward. She is survived by her childen, Wayne Cowdery of Houston, Texas, Jimmie White of Springtown, Texas, Donna Townsend of Bentonville, Ark., Christine Brown of Dallas, Texas, Diane Guthrie of Norman, Okla., Elaine McQueary of Glendale, Ariz.; plus 16 grandchildren and 37 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ward Shannon; three sisters and two brothers, Mildred Rudd, Wilma Dorlig, Ruth Hedden, Tommy Brundidge and Ralph Stork. A 10 a.m. viewing and 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Saturday, March 29, in the L.D.S. Chapel at Plano Parkway and Midway Drive. The interment will take place at the Prairie Mound Cemetery in Argyle, Texas.
