Larry Willard Scoggins, 70, of Springdale made his long-awaited journey to be with his Savior on March 17, 2014. Larry was born Dec. 9, 1943, in Fort Smith, Ark., to Louie Willard Scoggins and Elsie Gail Rogers Scoggins. Larry served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was a retired plant superintendent of a building supplies company, and a deacon and founding member of Christian Lighthouse Church of Springdale. Larry was well-known and highly-respected in the community for his calm, gentle demeanor and quiet, peaceful personality. Besides his four grandchildren, he had many honorary grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He dedicated his life to serving Christ quietly. He led not by words, but by simply living in such a way that made others want to follow his example. Forever kind and forgiving, he was a wise and valued leader in his church. For many years, Larry had a large Internet ministry that reached countless people in countries around the globe. Upon learning of his illness, many people reached out to the family to share stories of how he had helped them. As he battled cancer, he encouraged others who suffered from the same disease as he smiled through the pain and put the needs of others before his own. Before he noted any bad qualities in another individual, he concentrated on their good qualities. Before he spoke, he thought. Before he took, he gave. Before he talked, he listened. Before he died, he taught us to live. Larry is survived by his wife, Paula Scoggins of the home; sons and daughters-in-law, Lorne Scoggins and wife, Ritchie, of Lowell, Jody Scoggins of Springdale, and Ross Scoggins and wife, Misti, of Fayetteville. He is also survived by three siblings and in-laws, Roger Scoggins and wife, Angela, of Charleston, Janice Essman and husband, Shelby, of Charleston, and Randy Scoggins and wife, Elizabeth, of Charleston. He had four grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Makenzie Scoggins, Kassandra Scoggins, Jacob Scoggins and Elijah Scoggins. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at 10 a.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale, with the Rev. Landen Scoggins and the Rev. Lorne Scoggins officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christian Lighthouse Church, 1102-A Schmieding Lane, Springdale, AR 72764; or Open Avenues, P.O. Box 908, Rogers, AR 72757.
