Christine Burnett Van Dyke Wood passed away March 12, 2014, at the Circle of Life in Bentonville, Ark. Christine was born on April 20, 1925, in the small West Texas town of Lamesa to Monroe Jerry Burnett and Beatrice Brown. She and her little sister, Launi, were raised by their Granddad and Grandma Brown on the family farm. When the girls had grown into young women, they met the Van Dyke brothers, fell in love and were married. Tollie and Christine worked hard and built a good life. They enjoyed doting on nieces and nephews. Tollie passed away in 1971. Christine and Raymond Wood were married in 1975. She became grandma to eight grandkids and stepped into the position so well. Her grandkids were her great joy. Christine loved God. She loved her church family at the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Snyder, Texas, and her current church family at the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Bentonville, Ark. For many years, she sent every church member a birthday and special occasion card on their special days. Christine made beautiful embroidery work and spent hours making gifts for friends and family. Christine was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Tollie Van Dyke and Raymond Wood; and sisters, Launi Van Dyke and Glori Jean Fuller. She is survived by sisters, Lucy Bell and husband, Don, of Pharr, Texas, and Thelma Rucker; stepson, Johnie Wood and wife, Shirley; grandsons, Johnie Wood III, and Eric Wood and wife, Sara. Her great-grandchildren include, Kaleigh Wood, Johnie Wood IV, Eric Wood Jr., Lyric Wood, Seth Wood, Grace Wood, Justus Wood; and great-great-granddaughter, Zoey Schlesinger; granddaughter-in-law, Jessica King; and good friend, Debbie Reston; and many nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Terry Simmons, pastor of the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, and the loving staff of Circle of Life in Bentonville. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15, in the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, Bentonville, Ark.; Pastor Terry Simmons officiating. Interment will follow in the Peaceful Gardens Memorial Park, Lubbock, Texas, with graveside services at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 17; Pastor Danny Williams, Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, officiating. Memorials are suggested to the First Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 206 SE 28th St., Bentonville, AR 72712; or the Lighthouse Assembly of God Church, 5311 College Ave., Snyder, TX 79549.
