Mary Beall Underwood

Mary Beall Underwood died on March 11, 2014, at the age of 77. She was born on Feb. 2, 1937, at Cushing, Okla., to Arthur and Lela Ladd Beall. She was married to John Underwood on Dec. 8, 1962, at the First Baptist Church in Grove, Okla. She worked as an accountant at Eastern State Hospital in Vinita, Okla., for 27-and-a-half years before taking early retirement. Later on, she worked at Stanley Equipment Co. in Vinita, and Wallace and Owen Law Firm in Miami, Okla. Mary was active in the First Baptist Church in Bluejacket, Okla., for over 35 years. After moving to Gentry, Ark., in the year of 2000, she became a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Gentry. Mary is survived by her husband, John of the home; and five children, Diane and Steve Tillman of Gentry, Ark., Scott and Brenda Gordon of Joplin, Mo., David and Janet Underwood of Sand Springs, Okla., Andrea and Ken Mae of DuPont, Wash., and Jason and April Underwood of Carl Junction, Mo. Also she is survived by a brother, Donald Beall and wife, Mary, of Hoschton, Ga.; and an aunt, Nila Haskin of Cushing, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Lela; and by many beloved aunts, uncles and cousins. A visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark., on Friday, March 14, 2014, from 5 to 8 p.m. The service will be held at the Victory Baptist Church in Gentry, Ark., on Saturday, March 15, 2014, at 10 a.m. The Rev. Chaplain Ken May and Pastor Dennis Taylor will officiate the service. Burial will be held 3 p.m. the same day at the Bluejacket Cemetery in Bluejacket, Okla., under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark.
