Ruben Liner Jr., 81, of Fayetteville passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at his home surrounded by family. He was born Sept. 23, 1932, in College Station, Texas, to Ruben Liner Sr. and Velma Free. He served in the Army, and spent his professional life in the road construction business, including working with Standard Industries in Tulsa and McClinton-Anchor/APAC in Fayetteville. With help from his sons in 1971-1972, Ruben built what to this day is the family home. At McClinton Anchor/APAC, he rose to the office of vice president, was a fair and effective leader and had a deserved reputation for getting things done right. Away from work he was an avid traveler, going often to the Caribbean with his wife and friends. Ruben loved sailing and his passion for golf led, ultimately, to him serving as 1986 president of the Fayetteville Country Club. He was a fine man who lived and passed with courage and dignity. Ruben Liner was a man of rare quality; his family and wide circle of friends will miss the humor, common sense and charm that he brought into our lives. He was preceded in death by his parents; and son, Jeffery. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Jo Ann; children, Robert and wife, Gigi, of Fort Smith, Christopher and wife, Dolores, of Fayetteville, and Elizabeth and husband, Mike Webb, of Gulf Shores, Ala.; four grandchildren, David, Thomas, Samantha and Kevin; as well as several other family members and friends. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday, March 10, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Fayetteville. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m., with Dr. Doug Falknor officiating. Burial will be Fairview memorial Gardens, under the direction of Beard's Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 1324, Fayetteville, AR 72702. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.beardsfuneralchapel.com.
