Betty Gray Mills

Betty Gray Mills, the first daughter of Guy Raymond Duncan and Beulah Isabel (Land) Duncan of Winslow, Ark., was born Sept. 18, 1922, and passed away at the age of 91 on the morning of March 3, 2014, at Shiloh Nursing & Rehabilitation in Springdale. Betty was the captain of her basketball team and the salutatorian of Winslow High School Class of 1940. She was an operator and then supervisor in the business office for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1940 until 1958. Betty married Bob Mills in 1953, and then spent her time as a farm wife and supporter of the Oak Grove Community, just west of Springdale. Betty was a longtime member of the Oak Grove Extension Homemakers and a charter member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church where she acted as its Sunday School Secretary for many years. Betty is survived by her nieces, Chonita I. Pool of Springdale and Jeannie Burgner of Chula Vista, Calif.; her nephews, James E. Duncan of Fayetteville and Michael Duncan of Springdale. Betty had six great-nephews and four great-nieces and a number of great-great-nieces and -nephews. Betty is also survived by her beloved sisters-in-law, Ione Mills Duncan and Jody Mills; her brother-in-law, Bill Mills; and her many wonderful friends. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, with the Rev. Guy Durkee and the Rev. Louis Dewitt officiating. Burial will be in Brentwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday, March 7, 2014, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Washington County Memorial Program, 1200 W.
