Ruth Hamilton Gray

Ruth Hamilton Gray, 87, passed away Friday, Feb. 28, 2014, in Kingwood, Texas, following a long battle with Alzheimer's. Ruth was born May 13, 1926, in Floydada, Texas, the daughter of Thurman Travis Hamilton and Grace Williams Hamilton. She graduated from Floydada High School and attended the Western Union Secretarial School. On Oct. 24, 1944, she married Cubert Ira Gray. He passed away May 16, 2005. Following World War II, Ruth and Cubert moved to Amarillo, Texas. She worked for Santa Fe Railroad, Crawford & Co. insurance agency, the Potter County District Attorney's office and Diamond Shamrock. Following retirement, Ruth and Cubert moved to Bella Vista, Ark. They built a house that they had designed and enjoyed hosting gatherings in their home. She was a faithful Baptist all her life. She was a member of Woodridge Baptist Church in Kingwood. Prior to that, she held membership at Bella Vista Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church in Amarillo. Ruth loved to cook, sew, knit and quilt. She made quilts for each of her four grandchildren. She and Cubert traveled extensively, visiting all 50 states and several countries. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two sisters, Thelma Jo Potts and Oneca Hamilton. She is survived by two daughters, Sonya Kay Davenport and her husband, Edward, of Warrensburg, Mo., Nancy Ann Anderson and her husband, Larry, of Porter, Texas; four grandchildren, Bethany Johnston and her husband, Christopher, of Warrensburg, Mo., Tiffany Mullin and her husband, Cory, of Katy, Texas, Holly Davenport and her husband, Trent White, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Brandon Anderson and his wife, Erica, of Gilbert, Ariz. She is also survived by a sister, Wilma Colston of Floydada, Texas; eight great-grandchildren, Mikaleigh and Conner Johnston, Alexander, Michael and David Mullin, and Kate, Joshua and Emily Anderson; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers, Ark. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m., with the Revs. Michael McCauley and Christopher Johnston officiating. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville, Ark., at 1 p.m. The family suggests memorials to the Alzheimer's Association.
