Don LaVoie, 60, resident of Colorado Springs, Colo., passed away peacefully on June 23, 2014, after a nearly five-year battle against liver cancer. Don was born in Hartford, Conn., on Oct. 2, 1953, to Donald and Frances LaVoie, and grew up in the Coventry, Conn., area. Prior to moving to Colorado Springs in 2012, Don spent the previous decade on his farm in Cane Hill, Ark. As a master carpenter, Don's work included everything from major union jobs to private property remodeling, and allowed him to travel and experience many parts of the U.S. From 1995 to 2012, Don also operated several successful antiques shops in Midland and Hempstead, Texas, and Prairie Grove, Ark., where he enjoyed meeting new people. Don was a talented guitar player and his love of music was a very large part of his life. Going to concerts and jamming with friends was his favorite leisure pastime. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Nancy Baxter LaVoie; his four children, Justine Waymire, Dane LaVoie, Sara LaVoie and Erica LaVoie; five grandchildren; his father, Don LaVoie; and three siblings, Cathy Garrity, Brian LaVoie and Justine Bowen from Coventry, Conn. Don's extended family includes many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to your favorite charity or to The Carl McCain Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 66054, Houston, TX 77266, Attn: Jill Cloud, whose past generosity was so very helpful to Don and Nancy. Don will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colo.
