Jo Ann Clark Amidon, 79, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after suffering a stroke. Born Sept. 26, 1934, in Remington, Ind., to George and Alberta Clark, Jo graduated from Linden High School in Linden, Ind., and earned a degree in English from MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Ill. She married James Lee Amidon in Grosse Point, Mich., on July 1, 1961, and celebrated 53 years of marriage. Surviving are her husband; four sons, William Amidon (Laurie), Steven Amidon (Dixi), James Amidon Jr. (Christine) and Frank Amidon (Carrie); six grandchildren living in Alaska, Indiana and Florida; and her cousins, Skip and Kay Kay Adkins. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brother, Donald Clark. Mrs. Amidon was passionate about education and taught high school English in Grosse Point, Mich., religious education in Fort Wayne, Ind., and was a substitute teacher in Russellville, Ark. She was an energetic volunteer in her children's pursuits and committed to the congregations in the churches where she worshiped, including Faith United Church of Christ in Fort Wayne, Ind., and Central Presbyterian Church in Russellville, Ark. A private memorial service will be held in Tallahassee and her ashes will be scattered on Florida's Gulf Coast beaches and near her hometown in Indiana.
