Willavene Ann Sandbek

Willavene Ann Sandbek, age 92, of Bentonville, passed away on May 30, 2014, in Bentonville. She was born Jan. 20, 1922, in Commodore, Pa., to the late Paul and Velma Lockard Shank. Willavene married Rev. Phillip Sandbek in 1946. They served churches in Northport, Michigan, Prattsville, Treadwell and Roosevelt, N.Y. Also, Grace Church in Brooklyn, N.Y., and Hauppauge, Long Island, N.Y. Willavene (Woody) worked for Martin Aircraft in Baltimore during WW2. She worked for United Expositions in NYC from 1973 to 1980 when she and Phil retired to Bella Vista, Ark. They continued to serve churches in Arkansas until 1993, sharing their faith in The Lord. Willavene enjoyed quilting, gardening, crafts, travel, collecting vintage toothpick holders and open salts. She loved reading about History, singing in the choir and serving in the various churches. Woody also enjoyed baking, going to auctions to find new "treasures," and spending time with her beloved family. Survivors include two daughters, Arlyce Suedel of Bentonville, Rebecca Sandbek of Cape Coral, Fla.; one brother, David and wife Ginny Shank of Seguin, Texas; two grandsons, Jon Suedel of Sabin, Minn., Ryan and wife Kelly Suedel of Bentonville; 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Rev. Phillip Sandbek. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 3 at 4 p.m. at Oakley Chapel Methodist Church in Rogers. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 2 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Rollins Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in the Bella Vista Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Rollins Funeral Home of Rogers.
