John Ray Gibbs
John "J.R." Gibbs, 61, of Bentonville, formerly of Gravette, Ark., passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2014, in a Fayetteville hospital. He was born May 21, 1953, in Springdale, Ark., to John and Elane Bennett Gibbs.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and proudly served in both Desert Shield and Desert Storm and retired from the Gravette Police Department. He was also a member of the Gravette American Legion Post No. 25.
He is survived by one daughter, Judy Gibbs Velosky and her husband, Andy, of Fort Smith, Ark.; one son, Nathan Gibbs of Fort Smith, Ark.; his mother, Elane Bennett of Bentonville, Ark.; his father, John O. Gibbs of Keller, Texas; one sister, Shawna Lynch of Keller, Texas; two brothers, David Gibbs of Siloam Springs, Ark., and Mark Gibbs of Fort Worth, Texas; and one grandchild, Kyndal Gibbs.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, 2014, at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home Chapel, with burial with military honors in the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Ocker-Putman Funeral Home of Fort Smith, Ark.
Pallbearers will be Andy Velosky, Perry Lynch, David, Mark and Nathan Gibbs and Mike Carnahan.
The family will visit with friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Ocker-Putman Funeral Home.
