Loydis (Sarge) Wyatt West

Loydis (Sarge) Wyatt West, 81, of Fayetteville, Ark., died July 24, 2014, at Washington Regional Medical Center. He was born Aug. 23, 1932, in Coal Hill, Ark., to the late Riley West and Othella (Reasoner) West. Sarge was preceded in death also by his daughter, Angela West Lies. He was retired from Shelter Insurance Company and was a member of the Combs Street Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Shirley J. Newton West of the home, four sons, Charles Hamilton and Luke West of Fayetteville, AR; Joseph (Robin) West of Nashville, Tenn.; Tony West of Little Rock, Ark.; a daughter, Ann (Fred) Allen of Fayetteville, Ark.; and nine siblings, Annie Wright of Lawrence, Kan.; Rayford (Katherine) West and Alphonso (Rosie) West of Wichita, Kan.; Bertha Alexander and Sylvester Jean (Joel) of Kansas City, Mo.; Ivory (Joe) Conley; Marilyn (Robert) Zachry; Steve (Christine) West of Fayetteville, Ark., and Marcia (Ivan) Lassiter of Bentonville, Ark.; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many close nephews, nieces, cousins and very close friends. Sarge had a love for country music. He and his wife, Shirley, were well known throughout the region, performing at various venues to raise money for various organizations. Sarge had a firm handshake and a look-you-in-the-eye technique that was unforgettable. He loved to serve his neighbors. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon, Thursday, July 31, 2014, at the Mount Comfort Church of Christ with Steve West officiating and interment at 2 p.m. at the Fayetteville National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, July 30 at Beards Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers: Clifton Ealy, Hershell West, James Wilks, Fred Allen, Jeremy James, and Ben Carr. Honorary Pallbearers: Charles Hamilton, Joseph West, Luke West, Tony West, Al West, and Ray West. Arrangements are under the direction of Beards Funeral Chapel.
