Ray Jefferson

Ray Jefferson, 94, of Bentonville passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at his residence. He was born Oct. 13, 1919, in Bentonville to James Harvey and Vivian Davis Jefferson. He graduated from Bentonville High School in 1936, and in 1941 was inducted into the Army where he served during WWII in the Pacific Theater. In 1951, he married Joella Carter, who preceded him in death; as well as his parents, two brothers and two sisters. He served Benton County for 37 years, first as tax collector and then as county treasurer from 1958 until 1984 when he retired. He was a member and elder of the First United Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his daughter, Ramalee of Rogers; his grandson, Ryan of Petaluma, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Ann Back of Springville, Tenn.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be held Friday, July 25, at Bentonville City Cemetery, under the direction of Benton County Memorial Park Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Benton County Humane Society of Rogers; or Circle of Life, 901 Jones Road Springdale, AR 72762.
