Christine Agnes Schenk Doody, 87, of Bentonville passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014. She was born in New York, N.Y., on Nov. 22, 1926, as the only child of the late Andrew and Christine Metzger Schenk. She served in the U.S. Army as a registered nurse where she met the love of her life, James Thomas Doody, at Fort Chaffee, Ark. Following her discharge from the Army as a first lieutenant, she worked as a nurse in several hospitals and public schools, and also taught high school health professions classes. She was very involved in community service, including, among other causes, the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and as a Catholic lay volunteer. She was a voracious reader who also enjoyed genealogy, having traced her ancestry for several centuries. For nearly 51 years, she was the loving wife of James Thomas Doody, who preceded her in death in 2008. She is survived by two daughters, Michelle (Bruce) Bolin of Louisiana and Helen (Mark) Potter of Bentonville; two sons, James (Wendy) Doody of Virginia and Andrew (Pam) Doody of Massachusetts; 12 grandchildren; and a host of friends. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 23, from 6-8 p.m. at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. A Rosary will be said at 10 a.m. and the Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville. Interment will follow in Fayetteville National Cemetery at 1 p.m. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be expressed at www.callisonlough.com.
