John Wesley Tannahill, 89, of Lowell passed away Sunday, July 20, 2014, at Concordia Nursing and Rehabilitation in Bella Vista. John was born in Pawnee, Okla., on May 9, 1925, to his father, Otis Tannahill, and his mother, Lula "Bea" Macy Tannahill. He was preceded in death by his wonderful and loving wife, Jewel Tannahill; and their beloved son, Ivan Wesley Tannahill. He is survived by his daughter, Connie Eldridge; son-in-law, Gary Eldridge; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. John served overseas during World War II with the Second Infantry Division. He took part in the invasion of Europe and was wounded in combat in France on Aug. 4, 1944. As a result of his bravery, he was awarded the European Theatre of Operations Ribbon with one Battle Star, a Combat Infantry Badge, the Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge from the military, John devoted his life to his family and their family farm. He loved being a farmer and could usually be found either riding his tractor, caring for his animals, tending his garden or sitting outside whittling wood. He loved to work and put his heart into everything he did. His friends and family will miss his impassioned spirit, his unwavering tenacity and his mischievous grin. We were blessed to have had such a great and honorable man share his life with us and he will be greatly missed.
