Walter Theodore Johnston, 67, passed peacefully from this life on July 5, 2014 at his home in Lowell. He was born on June 8, 1947 in Muncie, IN to Leonard and Majorie Ladd Johnston. Walter grew up in Muncie, IN. He joined the USMC/USA in 1965 and served for 27 years. He served in Vietnam and was the recipient of various medals and honors to include the Purple Heart Medal. He retired in 1992, achieving the rank of 1st Sergeant. Walter married Virginia Compton on September 11, 1970. They were happily married for 43 years. Walter attended Oakley Chapel Methodist Church in Rogers. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Rogers VFW, and Stanton, CA American Legion. He enjoyed Golf, Deep sea Fishing, Traveling. Walter was preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild Mark Anthony Johnston Walter is survived by his wife, Virginia; three sons Keith Johnston and his wife, Karen of Indianapolis, IN. Kevin Johnston of Indianapolis, IN, and Bryan Johnston and his wife Asilynne of Denton, TX; a brother, Michael Johnston and his wife Jackie of Muncie, IN; a sister, Dorothy Wiggins and her husband, Terry of Gulfport, MS; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A visitation will be held at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home in Springdale Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 6:00p.m. Masonic Rites beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Oakley Chapel Methodist Church in Rogers. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Fayetteville National Cemetery.. Condolences may be offered at www.WestfieldChapel.com.
