Eleanor Sue Shelton Gill, 96, of Dumas, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on February 26, 2014, at Katherine's Place in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Left to cherish her memory are her children Linda Sue and husband, Barton Backus of Clark, Mo.; Danny and wife Sue Gill of Dumas, Ark.; Charlotte and her husband Rusty Jones of Fayetteville, Ark..; nine grandchildren Matt Backus, Deborah Beam, Ryan Gill, Amber Henry, Adam Jones, Nathan Jones, Rachel Jones, Hannah Jones, Rebecca March; and 10 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frances Shelton of Little Rock, Ark. and Ruth Gill of Dumas, Ark.; and brother-in-law Marion Gill and wife Bobbye of Dumas, Ark. Eleanor was born on August 31, 1917, in Hope, Ark. to Lindon and Eleanor Gertrude Shelton. She graduated from Monticello High School and attended Arkansas A&M College and Monticello Business College. Eleanor married Dan Wright Gill Jr. on June 30, 1940. He preceded her in death in February, 2005. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Dumas and was active in teaching the three year old Sunday School class, Royal Ambassadors and Sunbeams. She was also active with P.T.A. and Cub Scouts. Eleanor was a remarkable woman loved by all who knew her especially her grandchildren. They cherish memories of her sweet and thoughtful spirit. They will tell you she could build anything, sew anything, and cook the most delicious meals. A funeral service will be held to celebrate the life of Eleanor Gill on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Dumas. Pallbearers will be Nathan Jones, Adam Jones, Ryan Gill, Gary Gill, David Beam, Martin Henry, Matt Backus, and Jordan Wimpy. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Dumas Youth Choir Mission Trip. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thanks to Katherine's Place of Fayetteville for their compassion and loving care.
