Billy H. Morris, 73, of Witter, Ark., passed away at his home on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014. Billy was born on Sept. 28, 1940, in Mulberry, a son of Louie Morris and LoAnna Watson Morris. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1958 to 1962 as a boatswain's mate aboard the USS Lake Champlain Aircraft Carrier. He participated in the blockade of Cuba during the Missile Crisis and the recovery of America's first manned space flight, the Mercury. Later, Billy joined the Merchant Marines before coming home to a career as a self-employed contractor. He is survived by three sons, Ferol Morris of Tomball, Texas, Billy Morris of Baytown, Texas, and Mark Morris of Fayetteville, Ark.; one daughter, Vicki Carson of Centerton, Ark.; one brother, Howard Garrett of Springdale, Ark.; one sister, Pauline Turner of Seattle, Wash.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother, Donald Morris. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, Feb. 23, 2014, at 1 p.m. at the Springdale Adventist Fellowship.
