Orren William Evans, 89, of Siloam Springs, Ark., went to be with the Lord, Feb. 10, 2014, one day short of his 90th birthday, at Siloam Springs Regional Hospital. Born Feb. 11, 1924, in Morris, Okla., he was the sixth of 12 children born to James William Evans and LaVinnia Mae Wiles Evans. His family moved to Gentry, Ark., in 1936. He enlisted in the Navy his sophomore year of high school, February 1941. He served his country for 21 years before he retired. After his retirement from Naval service, he worked at the University of Arkansas; Simmons Industries; then John Brown University, retiring from there in 1986. On June 16, 1945, he married Barbara Lee Trammell. Orren was a member of the Gentry Masonic Lodge, F&AM #222, the American Legion, and the VFW. He attended the Gum Springs Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sheila Karen Dodd; and eight sisters. Survivors include his wife, Barbara of the home; son, Ronald William Evans and wife, Wanda Rosalee, of Siloam Springs; daughters, Sylvia Evans and Wanda Lee Evans of Siloam Springs; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Stacey; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Clarence Evans of Tulsa, Okla., Robert Evans of California, and Ronald Eugene Evans of Gentry, Ark.; several nieces and nephews; and one son-in-law, Joy K. Dodd of Murphy, Neb. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 13, 2014, at Wasson Memorial Chapel, Siloam Springs, with Pastor Gordon Topping officiating.
