Judith Geels Moran

Judith Geels Moran, 67, of Fort Smith, died Friday, December 26, 2014. She was born March 17, 1947, in Paris, graduated from St. Scholastica Academy and then from UALR with a B.A. in English. After a career with the Department of Human Services dedicated to protecting the interests of Arkansas youth, she remained committed in her retirement to an involvement in civic affairs. She was an avid reader, a skilled crossword puzzler, and a lifelong movie lover. Her enjoyment for music was enthusiastic and her taste eclectic—from gospel and Sacred Heart shape note singing to bagpipes and yodeling. Her design esthetic reflected her keen interest in art and photography and could be seen in the loving care with which she styled her surroundings, both indoor and out. Judith was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Lorraine (Jackie) Geels, and her sister, Kathleen Geels Johns. She is survived by her son, John; her brothers, David (Karen), Danny (Hui-Chin), and Walter; her sisters, Maria (David) and Deborah (Michael); and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Although not family, she treasured her relationship with two very special young people in her life, Anya Harris and Jack Hanshaw. The family will hold a private burial service; an online guestbook may be found at www.rollerfuneralhomes.com. Memorials can be made to Peachtree Hospice, 2910 Jenny Lind Road, Fort Smith, Ark. 72901.
