James Curtis "Jim" Vaughan, 72, of Hindsville, Ark., died Dec. 15, 2014, at his home. He was born Feb. 27, 1942, at City Hospital in Fayetteville, Ark., the son of Curtis Evans and Ruby Holt Vaughan. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Patricia Laird Vaughan of the home; cousins, Richard Holt Holyfield of Rogers, Ark., and Martha Vaughan Zumbro, husband John, and son Zeke, of Hindsville, Ark.; his mother-in-law, Rea C. Laird of Huntsville, Ark.; and a friend and farm employee of 42 years, Tillman Lane of Hindsville, Ark. He was preceded in death by one son, Buck Vaughan in 1990; one daughter, Jill ReEtta Vaughan in 1970; and his parents. Jim spent his childhood in Hindsville, where his parents owned a general merchandise store and a farm. He attended elementary school in Hindsville, and was a graduate of Huntsville High School and the University of Arkansas. He was a member of the 1960-61 freshman Razorback football team, where he was known as "Country." After graduation and the death of his father in 1965, he returned to the farm. He was the seventh generation of the original settlers of Vaughan Valley in 1831. He was a cattle producer and was one of the largest fescue seed producers in Arkansas. He and his wife operated the Valley Inn Cafe and the Vaughan Valley Antique Shop where they made many friends. Jim was a founding member of the Hindsville Rural Fire Department and served 41 devoted years as a director and secretary-treasurer. He cared deeply for the Hindsville Community and was concerned for the older citizens. He served on the Arkansas ADIC during the Bill Clinton Administration and was a member of Class 1 LEAD-AR of the University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension. Jim surrendered his life to the Lord in 1990 and was a devoted member of the Hindsville First Baptist Church. He will be missed by many friends in the community and his church family. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home, with the Reverends Leslie Elam and Max Bowlin officiating. Interment will be in the Vaughan Cemetery, under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home, www.brashearsfuneralhome.net, of Huntsville, Ark. Pallbearers will be C.G. Mason, X Dotson, Jerry Bolinger, Frankie Fitch, Bill Fitch, Dale Phillips, Jerry Vaughan and Stacy Easterling. Honorary pallbearers will be A.T. Smith, Elmer Faddis, Bill Smith, Pat A. Girard, Shelby Sisemore and Lundy Davis. Visitation will be from 4-6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hindsville First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
