Carolyn P. Scott, retired educator, wife of Eugene Williams, mother of Van, Lanita and Kevin Scott and resident of Rogers, joined Jesus Christ on Dec. 5, 2014, six years after her diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer. Carolyn's life began on Sept. 11, 1944, in Portsmouth, Ohio, the only child of Lt. Col. Albert J. and Jeanne D. Parker. Being from a military family, Carolyn attended numerous schools and lived in many diverse locations. She was educated in Department of Defense elementary and secondary schools, graduating from Florida A&M University Demonstration High School, where her father was head of the ROTC program. She graduated Fisk University in Nashville Tenn., where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta in 1965, becoming an active and devoted sorority member. She earned her Master's Degree in Education from Tennessee State University, and completed advanced graduate courses in early education from National-Louis University in Illinois. For 28 years Carolyn was a classroom teacher. She taught or worked in education in Tennessee, Philadelphia, Chicago, Rogers, and on the island of Taiwan. During a 13-year break from education, Carolyn was recruited in 1982 to the telecommunications sector and worked in management for South Central Bell in Nashville and later AT&T in Chicago. The career change must have been a divine intercession because on Dec. 4, 1984, Carolyn met the love of her life and her biggest fan, Eugene "Gene" Williams at AT&T. They married in 1987 and together they traveled extensively all over the world and spent months together in Taiwan as teachers of English. Carolyn and Gene relocated to Rogers, Ark., in 1996 and joined the Christian Life Cathedral, now Catalyst Church, in Bentonville. Carolyn taught at Grace Hill and Lowell Elementary Schools in Rogers and as a couple they were very active in the community. As a Christian woman with a giving heart, Carolyn not only continued to give and participate in the work of her sorority, she also held memberships in Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary, and the Arkansas Retired Teachers Association of Benton County. After her cancer diagnosis in 2008, Carolyn became active with the Pink Divas in Springdale Ark., a cancer survivor support group. Celebrating her wonderful life and being thankful for the time she had, Carolyn wanted this positive spirit to be felt from the moment of her passing, on to the memorial service and beyond. She leaves her beloved husband, Gene Williams; her children Van, Lanita, and Kevin; and her six grandchildren, Timothy, Chelise, Blair, Brianna, Caleb, and Kendle. She also cherished her "boys" the Shih Tzu puppies, Coco and Ryker. She is the first among 10 first cousins (Ron, Cheryl, Mary Jo, Olive, Elaine, Vivian, Norma Gene, Norman Jr., and Karla) to make this transition and her example will be remembered. Her sorors and a long list of friends dating back to childhood and college are a testament to Carolyn's ability to inspire and nurture relationships. Carolyn Parker Scott may have begun life as a child of the world; but in remembering her now, we celebrate a woman committed to Jesus and in the wholeness of God's love. Services will be Thursday; Dec. 18, 2014, with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Omega-Omega service from 12 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. with the Celebration of Carolyn's life following at 1 p.m. in the Hunt Chapel at Pinnacle Hills Memorial Garden, 5930 W. Wallis Road, Rogers AR 72758. Donations in lieu of flowers to: Circle of Life Hospice In Remembrance of Carolyn Parker Scott, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72764.
