Melvin Frank Lopes

Melvin Frank Lopes, 74, of Fayetteville died Dec. 2, 2014, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville. He was born Aug. 3, 1940, in Norwalk, Calif., to Manuel Silveria and Mildred Leona Eads Lopes. He moved to Fayetteville in 1981, and began working for Washington Regional Medical Center and retired in 2008. He was a member and officer of the Fayetteville Elks Lodge, and volunteered and supervised the ushers at the Razorback Athletic Department. Melvin was an avid golfer and was instrumental in forming the Washington Regional Hospital Classic Charitable Golf Tournament. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Tyler Craig Lopes. He is survived by his wife, Connie Baker Lopes; one son, Craig Manuel Lopes of Lake Stevens, Wash.; daughter, Lori Lee Arcon of Lake Stevens, Wash.; sister, Sharon Spring and husband, Wayne, of Orange, Calif.; and three grandchildren, Colby Schooley, Jerika Schooley and Talon Lopes. A memorial gathering of friends will be Thursday, Dec. 4, 2014, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fayetteville Elks Lodge on Crossover Road in Fayetteville. Private entombment will be in Benton County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elks Lodge, University of Arkansas Athletic Club or the Washington Regional Foundation Golf Classic.
