Donald Schnurbusch

Donald Joseph Schnurbusch, 73, passed away Sunday, Nov. 30, 2014, at his home in Bentonville, Ark. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Independence, Kan., with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kan., under the direction of Potts Chapel of Independence. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at St. Andrew Catholic Church. Recitation of the Rosary will be before the visitation at 5 p.m., also at St. Andrew. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Catholic Relief Services at www.crs.org; or Habitat for Humanity at www.habitat.org. Don was born April 17, 1941, in Perryville, Mo., to Bill and Henrietta (Trapp) Schnurbusch. Don earned his doctorate of education degree at Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., in 1972. He taught in the science department at Independence Community College from 1972 until his retirement in 2005. From 2006 to 2010, Don lived in McKinney, Texas, where he volunteered at Habitat for Humanity. In 2010, Don moved to Bentonville, Ark., to be closer to his family. Don loved gardening, fishing, hunting, reading, cooking and baking, and spending time with his grandkids. Don was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Bentonville. Don was preceded in death by his mother, Henrietta Schnurbusch. He is survived by his daughter, Tracy Schnurbusch of Bentonville, Ark.; his son, Aaron Schnurbusch and wife, Zoedy, of Independence, Kan.; his son, Chris Schnurbusch and wife, Shawnda, of Bentonville, Ark.; the mother of his children, Linda Schnurbusch of Independence, Kan.; his father, William O. Schnurbusch of St. Louis, Mo.; his sister, Patricia Vogel and husband, Curt, of Columbia, Mo.; his brother, Gary Schnurbusch and wife, Lora, of Columbia, Mo.; his brother, Randy Schnurbusch and wife, Jackie, of St. Louis, Mo.; his brother, Brian Schnurbusch of St. Louis, Mo.; four grandchildren, Layne and Dylan Schnurbusch of Independence, Kan., and Sydney and Logan Schnurbusch of Bentonville, Ark.; and many other family members and friends.
