Martha Anne Mason

Martha Anne Mason, 89, a lifelong resident of Bentonville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 28, 2014 at the Earlene Howard Hospice House in Springdale. Martha was born on Aug. 29, 1924 in Bentonville, a daughter of W.T. "Town" Bolin and Etta Catherine Thompson Bolin. She was the widow of the late Clarence Mason who preceded her in death. Martha was employed by the Bank of Bentonville for 25 years, where she became the first female bank officer in Arkansas. Later she worked for Cooper Communities and at the Wal-Mart home office in finance. She was the oldest living charter member of the Bentonville Church of Christ, where she was a very active as a senior servant. She enjoyed gardening flowers, worked faithfully at the election polls and loved spending time with her family. She is survived by her daughter, Shannon and husband Orville Clift of Tontitown; one sister, Kathryn Cawood of Bentonville; three granddaughters, Dena and husband Jesse Chambliss of Highfill, Ark., Jennifer and husband Troy Hietanen of Savannah, Ga., and Lexi and husband Brad Moore of Benton, Ark.; great-grandchildren, Haley and Creed Chambliss, Alec Hietanen, Mason and Madison Lockridge and Molly and Susanna Moore; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by one brother, J.C. Bolin; and two sisters, Pauline Crampton and Maxine Kiefert. Visitation will be held on Monday, Sept. 1, 2014 at the Bentonville Church of Christ from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Bentonville Church of Christ on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. Minister Walton Hook will officiate the service with burial being held at the Bentonville City Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
