Peggie Wallis

Margaret "Miss Peggie" Wallis, 90, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at Circle of Life Hospice House in Bentonville. She was born Nov. 26, 1923, in New Zealand, the daughter of Myrtle Sollitt and Thomas Henry Wilson. She was a ballet teacher for many years and loved theater work. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Academy Dance of London, and had the pleasure of traveling the world while teaching in many places including, Oklahoma, Texas and Florida. She was co-founder of Northwest Arkansas Ballet, a nonprofit organization, and an inspiration for Northwest Arkansas Conservatory of Classical Ballet. She lived in the Northwest Arkansas area for over 20 years after moving from New Zealand. She taught hundreds of young girls and will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Gordon Stewart Wilson; one sister, Alice Elizabeth Dalziel; and two stepdaughters, Connie Lee Nebe and Vickie Wallis. Peggie is survived by her husband, Robert E. Wallis of Bentonville whom she married May 25, 1970; one son, Robert LeRoy Burns and his wife, Linda, of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Margaret "Peggie" Anne Burns of Bentonville; a niece, Harmony May of New Zealand; and nine grandchildren. A memorial service will be scheduled by the family and announced at a later date. Memorials may be sent to: Northwest Arkansas Conservatory of Classical Ballet, in care of the "Peggie Wallis Scholarship Fund," located at Pinnacle Bank, 4201 West New Hope Road, Rogers, AR 72758, to assist students to reach their Royal Academy Dance Exam Goals.
