Martin Kenneth Franks

Martin Kenneth Franks, age 83, Joplin, Mo., passed away Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, following a short illness. He was born March 12, 1931, in Swain, Ark., to Hunely and Susie Franks. Marin retired from TAMKO as a traffic manager after several years of service. He was a member and very active with the Newman Road Church of Christ. He served as an Airborne Ranger from 1951-1965 during the Korean War where he attained the rank of master sergeant. He married Bonnie Smith on April 8, 1955, and she preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Buddy Franks, Jack Franks, Joe Franks; and one sister, Edith Waterman. Martin married Irene Harper Chrisenbery on May 3, 2013, and she survives. Additional survivors include one daughter, Joni Franks, Colorado; Irene's daughter and son, Teresa Thaman and husband, David, Joplin, Mo., Michael Chrisenbery and wife, Wendy, Joplin, Mo.; three grandchildren, Aubrey Chrisenbery, Kayla Thaman, Joseph Hembree and wife, Melissa; two sisters, Helen Ketner, Clarksville, Tenn., Shirley Barron and husband, Bill, Springdale, Ark., and two sisters-in-law, Virgie Franks and Helen Franks. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2014, at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary chapel, with Pastor Patrick Cawthon officiating. Burial will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Mercy Hospice in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
