Eleanor Zalabak

Eleanor Zalabak, 95, of Rogers, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014. Born Oct. 7, 1918, to Josephine and Adam Swital of Chicago. She was married to Joseph William Zalabak in 1942. In 1976 they moved to Rogers where she was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul's Marian Prayer Group, Alter & Rosary Society, and Legion of Mary; also the Rogers Organic Garden Club, the Red Hat Society, and Friends of the Library. She had the heart of an artist, was an avid painter and woodcarver, seamstress, and shared her gift of cooking with everyone. She was preceded in death by her by two children, Penny and Billy, and by her husband Joseph. She is survived by five daughters and three sons-in-law: Terry Zalabak of Rogers, Deborah Lengsas of Georgia, Beth and Jerry Carnes of Rogers, Marisa Zalabak and Randy Thompson of New York, and Polly Ann and Frank Martin of Tennessee; six grandchildren: Sarah, Andrew, Evan and his wife Melissa, Thea, Zachary, and Mary Elizabeth; three great-grandchildren: Cameron, Abigail, and Lizzie; and her beloved nieces and nephew Christyne, Kathy, and Michael Forti. The funeral service will be held on Monday, Aug. 18, 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. The visitation will be held at Rollins Funeral Home on Hudson Road in Rogers on Sunday, Aug. 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. with Rosary at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to St. Vincent's Food Pantry.
