Elvin Smith

Elvin Smith, 84, a resident of West Fork, Ark., passed away Aug. 8, 2014, at Willard Walker Hospice in Fayetteville, Ark. He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Fort Smith, Ark., the son of Willie and Mary Josephine Rorie Smith. He was a member of the New Sulphur Freewill Baptist Church. Elvin retired from the Arkansas State Forestry Commission, was a lifelong cattle farmer and co-founder of the Stilwell Sale Barn in Stilwell, Okla. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Newell Smith, Delton Smith and Melvin Smith; and three children, Alfred Smith, Dale Smith and John Cooley. Elvin is survived by his wife, Betty Smith of the home; and his children, Terri Lynne McNaughton and her son, Don E. McNaughton, Darrel Cooley, David Cooley, Mary Matthews, Marie Lee and Cecilia Daniels; nephews, John Smith and wife, Tammy Smith, and Kelly Ramey; several grandchildren; many great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and lots of friends. Family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 6-7 p.m. at Luginbuel Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, 2 p.m. at New Sulphur Freewill Baptist Church, near Prairie Grove, Ark., with burial in McDonald Cemetery, near Hogeye, Ark.
