Maureen Graham Graue, 77, passed away in her home on Aug. 3, 2014. She was born Oct. 11, 1936, in Lowell, Ark., to Harvey and Mable Graham. Maureen not only filled the traditional role of "Mom," but she also took on the job of breadwinner in the family. She referred to herself as an "independent soul." She raised three children working inside and outside the home. Maureen grew up in northeast Springdale. She attended Springdale High School and entered the work force soon after. She worked for Famous Hardware, where "anybody who'd ever been anybody" had worked there. She held several jobs in other places. She always tried to make a warm "homeplace" for her children. Maureen was a former member of 4-H and as a single mom she never found it hard to cook food or sew. She worked as a bookkeeper for Meeks Lumber for over 30 years where she spent 45 hours a week balancing books. Where she showed her business acumen. She developed an interest in the construction field. She raised her family on their farm where they enjoyed numerous dogs, cats and other pets. Maureen said that her key to happiness was being true to yourself and God. She is survived by her ex-husband, Gerald Clark Graue of Fayetteville; one son, Joseph Scott Graue of Lowell; two daughters, Janie Elizabeth Graue Van Curen and husband James Richard and Mary Dean Graue and Randall Byrd of Springdale; two grandchildren, Bryan C. and Heather R. Van Curen of Lowell; two sisters, Mary Belle Graham of Bentonville and Kahylene Vanzant and husband Fred of Springdale and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. A visitation will be held at Sisco Funeral Chapel from 9 to 10:30 on Monday before the service.
