Melba K. Sappington, 91, of Rogers, Ark., passed away Aug. 6, 2014, in Rogers. She was born Sept. 22, 1922, in Delaware County, Okla., the daughter of Cephus and Lena Ellen Morgan Fields. Melba formerly worked for Crowder College and McDonald Douglas Aircraft before becoming a homemaker. Melba spent the past 28 years as a resident of Rogers. Prior to moving to Rogers, Melba and her husband, Forrest, lived in San Diego, Calif., for many years before moving to Gravette, Ark., where she lived for 11 years. She was a member of the San Carlos Christian Church in San Diego. She is preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Earl Sappington. She is survived by her daughter, Sue England Castillo; granddaughter, Michele Beatty Coleman; grandson, Darryl Eugene Beatty; three great-grandchildren, Dustin Slaughter, Ashton and Stephanie Beatty; three brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, Aug. 10, 2014, at 4 p.m., with memorial services at 5 p.m. and visitation concluding at 6:30 p.m. at Benton County Funeral Home, 306 N. 4th St., Rogers. Private interment will be in the Fields Cemetery in Dodge, Okla. Memorial contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.
