Porter W. Stone

Porter W. Stone, 91, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Friday, April 11, 2014, in Fayetteville. He was born March 12, 1923, in Vicksburg, Mich., to Frank C. Stone and Effie L. (Foster) Stone. He was a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Air Force, having served in World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Era, a retired industrial engineer professor at the University of Arkansas, and a member of Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, where he was active in the choir. He is survived by his wife, Sally Stone; two sons, Andrew D. Stone and wife, Terry, of Bristol, R.I., Ronald G. Stone and wife, Catherine, of Boise, Idaho; two daughters, Christine L. Stone of Providence, R.I., Martha L. Stone and husband, Aaron, of Seattle, Wash.; and five grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, April 13, from 2 until 4 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, April 14, at Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, with the Rev. Sara Pair officiating. Private burial with full Military Honors will be held at Fayetteville National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Sequoyah United Methodist Church Choir Fund or to The Porter W. Stone Scholarship Fund c/o The University of Arkansas.
