Peggy Joan Meyers Vawter, age 81 of Galena, Kan., passed away at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, following a sudden illness. Born March 31, 1932, in Herington, Kan., she was the daughter of the late Herman and Mae Curtis Meyers. In 1950 she graduated from Wyandotte High School in Kansas City, Kan. Peggy married Raymond M. Vawter on July 5, 1953. He survives. She was a committed homemaker and mother, assisting and moving with her husband all around the world during his 20-year U.S. Army career. After retirement, she was a longtime resident of Frankfort, Kan., Rock Springs, Wyo., and Bella Vista, Ark. She was most recently a member of Church of Our Savior Anglican Church, Joplin, Mo. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jon Vawter and wife Angela of Overland Park, Kan., along with their son, Jackson; a daughter, Karen Fowler and husband Russell of Bella Vista, Ark., along with children, Macey Brake, Kyle Fowler and wife Margret, and Kristian Fowler Addison; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at 11 a.m. at Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista, Ark. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 3 to 4 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7, at Ft. Leavenworth National Cemetery in Fort Leavenworth, Kan. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests memorial contributions to Salvation Army.
