Grant Elbert Green

U.S. Army Retired, Lt. Col. Grant Elbert Green, age 78, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Saturday, Sept. 14, 2013. Grant "Sonny" Green, was born in Little Rock, Ark., to the late Dorothy and Grant Green on Sept. 22, 1934. He graduated from Little Rock Central High School in 1951 before completing his ROTC training at Ouachita Baptist College. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Service Corps for 22 years, earning numerous meritorious service awards, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Bronze Star Medal. After retiring from the U.S. Army as U.S. Army Lt. Col. in 1979, he served as Hospital Personnel Director at Washington Regional Medical Center. He attended Fellowship Bible Church in Lowell, Ark., and was also an avid fisherman and hunter, winning the Arkansas Triple Trophy Award, 1998-1999. He is preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Grant Green. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patsy Green; children, Sherril Green and husband Stephen Turner of Palo Alto, Calif., Grant W. Green and wife Meg of Springdale, Ark., Sandra Morrow and husband Richard of Mooresville, N.C.; two brothers, Richard Green of North Little Rock and his daughter Anna Townsell, wife of Todd Townsell of Conway, Ark., Larry Green and wife Jenni Green of Greer, S.C., and their children Wesley and Leigh Green; and nine grandchildren: Brooke, Jonathan and Braden Morrow, Haley, Erin, Clare and Grant J. Green, William and Annah Turner; his aunt, Anna Thomas, of Little Rock, AR; Linda Blasingame-Newton and son, David Newton of Little Rock, Ark.; Bill and Rosemary Blasingame of Alma, Ark., and children Francie, Larry Bill Blasingame, Angie Spencer and husband Steve. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. Graveside funeral services with Full Military Honors will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Fayetteville National Cemetery with Reverend Herschel McClurkin officiating.
