Paul Palmer, 91, of Bentonville, Ark., passed away Sunday, Oct. 27, 2013, in Rogers. He was born March 16, 1922, in Corwith, Iowa, to Paul Palmer and Mildred Clark Palmer. He proudly served in the United States Navy during WWII in the South Pacific on several different ships, including three that sank. He spent 29 days in a life-raft before being rescued and lived the rest of his life with the pain of shrapnel in his body. He was a local general contractor, building homes and commercial buildings for over 26 years. For a hobby, Paul did beautiful woodwork and enjoyed making rocking chairs and furniture for those he loved. He was an active, faithful member of First Baptist Church in Centerton for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 63 years, Loretta; and seven siblings. Paul is survived by one son, Tom Palmer and wife, Peg, of Rogers; two daughters, Kathy Reid and husband, Bob, of Centerton, Debby Machupa of Centerton; one sister, Bernice Hammond of Kentucky; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at Stockdale-Moody Funeral Services in Rogers. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at First Baptist Church in Centerton, with Pastor Stuart Bell officiating. Burial will be in Bentonville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Arkansas Freedom Fund Inc., P.O. Box 697, Bryant, AR 72089, to support our military, veterans, wounded warriors and the families that have shared in the glories and sacrifices of those who defend our freedom.
