Ross Butler Stout

Ross Butler Stout, 83, died on Oct. 27, 2013, in Siloam Springs, Ark. His legacy is one of a life of service to his family, profession, church and community. Born Feb. 15, 1930, in Siloam Springs, he was the son of Albert Ross Stout and Ethel Butler Stout. Survivors include: his wife of 64 years, Frances Newton Stout of Siloam Springs; son, Michael Stout and his wife, Connie of Northwest Ark.; daughter, Donna Hillard and her husband, Randy of Ozark, Ark.; son, Charles Stout and his wife, Tammy of Siloam Springs; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren; his brothers, Charles "Chick" Stout of Wichita, Kan., Jim Stout of Florida.; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Ross attended Siloam Springs Public Schools, the University of Arkansas, and graduated from the LSU School of Banking. He was a banker for over 50 years, serving as President of Arkansas State Bank in Siloam Springs from 1971-1994. He was a member of First Christian Church, Siloam Springs, where he served as an elder, treasurer and in many other areas of leadership. One of his passions in the last few years has been to share the love of Jesus Christ with others through his participation in the Heart of the Ozarks Emmaus group. Ross was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Siloam Springs for 50 years. Many civic and non-profit groups benefitted from Ross' leadership and generosity. He was a member of the Arkansas Independent Bankers Association and served as their President in 1992-1993; also serving as the Director for Arkansas in the Independent Bankers Association of America from 1986-1994. He was proud to share with Cookson Hills Youth Ranch, Life Styles, Inc., and John Brown University as a board member of The Charles H. Stout Foundation. He was a Life Member of Springdale Jaycees and was awarded their Distinguished Service Award in 1966. He was a member of Siloam Springs Chamber of Commerce, serving as their president in 1973 and receiving their Pioneer Citizen Award in 2003. He was on the Board of Directors for The Main Street, Siloam Springs. Ross was an avid golfer, being a member of Dawn Hill Men's Golf Association. He and his wife, Fran sought and played on many beautiful courses in their travels throughout the United States. He also enjoyed bird hunting, fishing with his sons, grandsons and friends. A celebration on Ross' life will be held, 2 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013 at First Christian Church, Siloam Springs, Ark., led by Pastor Vance Eubanks, pastor friend from Prairie Grove Christian Church. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be his grandsons; Aaron Webb, Andrew Stout, John Hillard, James Hillard, Levi Herrin; and his nephew, Bob Townes. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 28, 2013 at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark. There will be a private burial.
