Gene Sage, age 87, passed away early Saturday morning, Oct. 26, 2013, at Bridgewood Nursing and Rehab in Neenah, Wis. Gene was born in Illinois on Aug. 22, 1926, son of the late William and Rose (Schreck) Sage. As a young man, he was employed by Western Condensing in Appleton, Wis., and later worked for Hardy Salt Company, which later became Diamond Crystal and Akzo Nobel. He retired in the mid-1980s. On June 4, 1987, he married the former Dorothy Yingling Kennedy in Winneconne, Wis., and the couple was blessed with 25 years together. Everyone will remember Gene for his love of golf. He was a member of Ridgeway Country Club, and upon retiring to Bella Vista, Ark., Gene literally thought he had gone to heaven! Seven courses to choose from every morning! He was a proud member of two golf groups, the Purple Sages and the Snowbirds. Failing health prompted he and Dorothy to relocate to the Valley in 2011. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Sage of Menasha, Wis.; three children, Jeffrey Sage of Summit Lake, Wis.; Rebecca Peters of Mesa, Ariz.; and Wendy (Gary) Groves of Hortonville, Wis.; a stepson, Richard (Kathy) Kennedy of Appleton; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and his first wife Lois. At Gene's request, no services will be held at this time.
