Dorothy Ann O'Shaughnessy

Dorothy A. (Guarnera) O'Shaughnessy, 75, of Bentonville, passed away on Oct. 24, 2013, after a long-term illness. Born in Springfield, Mass., to Joseph R. and Beatrice (Primrose) Guarnera, Dottie grew up in Springfield and Wilbraham, Mass., before settling in East Longmeadow where she lived and was a communicant of St. Michael's Parish for 40 years. She retired to the state of Arkansas in 2005. Dottie graduated from Cathedral High School in 1956, and St. Vincent's School of Nursing in 1959. After spending many years as a wife and devoted mother, Dottie returned to work in 1979 and served as a head nurse at the former Ludlow Hospital. Dottie also served in administration positions for many years, including Director of Nursing, at Ring Nursing Homes in Springfield, Mass. In addition to her parents, Dottie is predeceased by her late former husband Gerald M. O'Shaughnessy, brother John W. Guarnera, and sister Judith P. (Guarnera) Mathis-Samuel. Dottie leaves behind four sons and three daughters-in-law: Kevin J. and his wife Wei of San Francisco, Calif., Michael J. and his wife Evelyne of Clovis, Calif., Christopher P. and his wife Kira of Bentonville, and Brian J. of Springfield, Mass. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and several nieces, nephews, sibling-in-laws as well as many longtime friends. Her grandchildren include Ian of San Francisco, Evan and Braden of Clovis, and Matthew, Tyler and Karianne in Bentonville. Dottie was loved by her children, family and friends and will be missed. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2013, at Callison-Lough Funeral Home in Bentonville. A rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the Chapel at St. Stephens Catholic Church, with Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated at 10:30 a.m. in the sanctuary. Burial will follow in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery near Rogers.
