Richard L. 'Dick' Dollen

Richard L."Dick" Dollen, age 80, passed away Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at Northwest Medical Center in Bentonville, Ark. Dick was born June 5, 1933, in Persia, Iowa, to Lowell S. and Grace "Verdene" (Cave) Dollen, and graduated from Persia High in 1952. He also completed three years of college and served his country in the U.S. Army, and the reserve units in Harlan and Council Bluffs, and also the National Guard. All in all, Dick's military service spanned 42 years. He worked as a manager for Pratts Coin Shop, and his hobbies included coin collecting, golfing and target shooting. He served on the Persia City Council and umpired for many years. He was united in marriage to Patsy L. McMahan on Nov. 21, 1959. Dick lived in Persia for 50 years, Abilene, Texas, for 19 and Bella Vista, Ark., since 2000. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Donald "Fudd" Dollen. Survivors include wife, Patsy L. of Bella Vista; sons, John and wife, Cathy, Baltimore, Md., Jared and wife, Susan, Council Bluffs, Iowa; grandchildren, Todd Riner, Eric and Sara Dollen, Anthony Furrow, Mimi Dollen, Michelle Seymer and Christopher Brake; four great-grandchildren; sister, Deanna Piatt, Omaha; brothers, Dennis and wife, Billye, Harlan, Iowa, and David and wife, Kathy, Dollen, Council Bluffs; sister-in-law, Nancy Sue McMahan, Scottsdale, Ariz. Visitation Friday 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Funeral services Saturday 2 p.m.; all at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Interment Valley View Cemetery, Persia, Iowa, with military rites by the Persia American Legion. Luncheon will follow at Community of Christ Church in Persia. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association and Salvation Army.
