Jake Hartz Jr., pioneer leader in bringing soybeans to the Mid-South passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2013, in Stuttgart, Arkansas. He was president of Hartz Seed Company until his retirement. He was active in many civic endeavors throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and duck hunter. He was born August 2, 1920, in Wheatley, Arkansas, the son of Jacob Hartz and Mary Isabelle Smith Hartz. He is survived by his wife Wanda; his son Chris (Jane); and three grandchildren, Lauren Hartz, Justin Hartz and Jennifer Hartz. He is also survived by his sister, Marjorie McNutt. He was predeceased in death by his four brothers, B.J., Marion, Alfred and Richard; and two sisters, Annabelle Kleiner and Mary Jane Flannery; his parents, Jacob and Mary Hartz; and his first wife, Wanda Grundman Hartz. Visitation will be Thursday, October 10, 4-6 p.m. at Holy Rosary Parish Hall with Rosary following at 6 p.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A full obituary will be published in Thursday's edition.
