Joe Collens Tate, age 77, of Seligman, Mo., passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, in his home surrounded by his family and friends. Mr. Tate, son of Wilburn J. and Minnie I. (Phillips) Tate was born on July 13, 1936, in Osage, Ark. Joe attended school at Golden, Mo., and Cassville, Mo. On Nov. 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Norma I. Pippin in Cassville, Mo., who survives. He lived in Kansas City, Mo., and worked at Fisher Body in Leeds, Mo. After becoming disabled he moved his family back to Seligman to make their home. Mr. Tate owned the DX station in Seligman, and helped out with the Seligman Boxing Club. He was a member and trustee for the Rock Springs Church in Seliman, and would also drive the church van. Mr. Tate loved spending time with his family, camping, hunting and working on vehicles. Joe endured many hours spent with loud kids, which he loved every minute of. Addition survivors include two sons, J.C. Tate and his wife Cathy, and Johnny Tate and his wife Kristy, both of Seligman; two daughters, Glenda Leachmen and her husband Jeff, and Sheila Black and her husband Rod also of Seligman; four brothers, Melvin Tate and his wife Marie, of Tracy, California, Herbert Tate, of Rogers, Ark., Edward Tate and his wife Shirley, of Seligman, Mo., and Jerry Tate, of Holden, Mo.; two sisters, Mary Periman and her husband JB, of Kingsville, Mo., and Beverly Ball, Eagle Rock, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, Michelle, Stacie, Ashley, Jeremy, Brittany, Patsy, Jamie, Gary, Kayla, Doniel, Ashley, Chance, Carley, and Ryan; five great-grandchildren; and many more that he considered as his own. In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by four brothers, Floyd Tate, Troy Tate, James Tate, and Eugene Tate; and one sister, Dorothy Periman. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory with Pastor Perry Morgan and Pastor Glenn Erwin officiating. The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
